Central Atolls Maldives Surf Charter v Surf Resort
Exploring the Uncharted Waves: A Surf Boat Charter in the Central Atolls of Maldives
For avid surfers seeking an extraordinary adventure, the Central Atolls of Maldives offer a unique and unparalleled experience through surf boat charters. In comparison to traditional surf resorts, these charters unlock a world of advantages, from discovering remote surf breaks to engaging in world-class fishing and enjoying a variety of non-surfing activities that go beyond the typical resort experience often at a fraction of the cost of a surf resort:
Access to Remote Surf Breaks:
One of the primary advantages of opting for a surf boat charter in the Central Atolls is the access to remote and uncrowded surf breaks. While surf resorts may have a ‘Private break’ for their guests use, a charter allows surfers to explore many hidden gems throughout the Central atolls. Surfing remote perfect peeling reefbreaks with just a small group of friends, has to be the ultimate experience for a surfer.
Your Central Atolls trip route will be based on the forecast for swell and wind direction. With the expert advise of your guide you will embark on a multi atoll adventure.
For 11 night/10 day Central atolls trips basically , The western atolls (Dhaal & Thaa ) need SW swell to work with NW winds and the Eastern atolls (Sth Male’ , Meemu & Laamu )need SE swell and West in the wind . The longer the period of swell the more groomed and powerful. For example a 1m , 14 sec period ,SW swell (210+angle) with NW wind will likely be 6’ plus at certain breaks in the central atolls. We know the region intimately therefore you will be in the right place at the right time based on your group surf needs.
On a 10 day trip you are likely to experience 2 swells and ideally one would have SE angle and other SW angle , but this is not always gonna happen . If it’s SW swell angle the entire time it’s not really worth going to East atolls & vice versa ; if it’s is SE the entire time it’s not really worth going to West atolls.
World-Class Fishing Opportunities:
We have basic fishing gear onboard. There are excellent game fishing opportunities on the Central Atolls trips to troll for Yellowfin, Mahi Mahi, Mackerel, Sailfish etc. when travelling between breaks/atolls. Keens anglers should pack a game rod with some medium to heavy braid and some good trolling lures in order to get amongst the action. A jigging rod and gear is well worth packing too. There is good bottom bashing and jigging off the back of the boat at night. With the spot light on, tunes playing and a few beers, it’s a great way to spend an evening with friends, even for the novice fisherperson.
Our chef, Gopal, loves it when guests catch fresh fish as he’ll prepare sashimi or cook it up a treat.
Photography Package:
All trips will have a professional photographer onboard. Humaid Ibrahim, a local from Laamu has worked as a photographer at Kandooma, Pasta Point and numerous surf charters over the years. Humaid also is mad keen on fishing and will show keen fishermen the best spots throughout the atolls. He will customise a photo package for your group and you can negotiate group photo package prices directly. Normally around US$150 pp for 10 days including water, drone and land based photos of surf and lifestyle.
Diverse Non-Surfing Activities:
Unlike surf resorts, surf boat charters open up a myriad of non-surfing activities. Snorkeling in vibrant coral reefs, beach-combing on deserted islands, and basking in the sun-kissed beauty of pristine beaches are just a few of the activities charter guests can relish. These diverse experiences allow travelers to connect with the natural wonders of the Maldives in ways that go beyond the confines of a resort setting.
